Jadavpur University in Calcutta will soon start courses on Atomic Power.
The top Administrative body has permitted them to go ahead with the proposal with a condition that they should focus the studies on generating power with atomic energy and sort out difficulties during the constructive use of atomic energy
They have also advised that the study should show concern towards public health and Environmental safety. Their objective is to generate energy with Thorium, a radio active element. Within a month, specialists from 7 departments will commence their field work.
It must be mentioned particularly that the seven departments, namely, Electrical, Civil, Mechanical, Power, Construction, Material Science and Instrumentation, in collaboration with each other offer this study through the atomic division school.
To start with, activities in the laboratories of two departments will commence. Though it is only research oriented activities initially, in course of time Post graduate studies will be offered in a separate block with all facilities.
At the start this study will be sponsored by the State government and the University. Later, considering the quality and need, institutions like CSIR, TRTO and TST would render their assistance.
Baba Atomic Research Center, Saga institute of Nuclear Physics and various Energy Cyclotron centers and Academic energy Regulatory Board will collaborate with this special Department of Atomic Research of Jadavpur University.
